Our History

James Sanders Nursery, Inc. has been a family owned and operated business since 1957 and includes an extended family and team of qualified and experienced landscape professionals. Today the women-owned and managed business integrates the strengths of multiple focus areas, including a retail garden center, landscape maintenance, landscape design-build, and registered landscape architects. At Sanders Nursery, we strive to educate and meet the evolving landscape needs of our clients, community, and environment.

History

Frank Sanders (First Generation) started working in the Nursery Industry. Sanders Brothers Nursery was started by two of Frank Sanders four sons.
1920's

James Sanders Sr. (Second Generation) who worked for his brothers, founded James Sanders Nursery known as “The Garden Spot of Western Kentucky” with his son James Sanders Jr. (Third Generation).

1971

James Sanders Implement was spun off James Sanders Nursery, although we had been selling lawn & garden equipment since the early 60’s. Implement continued until 2011, when it was sold to Hutson, Inc.

1975

Larry Sanders (Third Generation) son of the late James Sanders Sr. took over ownership and expanded the large scale contracting capabilities of the company.

1985

James Sanders Nursery became women-owned as Larry’s wife Carol and daughter Crystal (Fourth Generation) manage the day to day operations.

2006

Larry Sanders inducted into prestigious Kentucky Nursery & Landscape Association Honorary Hall of Fame.

2008

James Sanders Nursery welcomes home Kelly Sanders-Dye (Fourth Generation) and Chris Dye. Kelly is registered landscape architect and certified planner. Chris is a registered landscape architect.

2010

James Sanders Nursery receives National Women’s Business Enterprise Certification (WBE). This certification affirms that James Sanders Nursery is women owned, operated, and controlled.

James Sanders Nursery celebrated its 60th year of operation with an anniversary party and customer appreciation event to thank the community for 60 great years.
